Macaroon Mission

So, my sister went to London not too long ago and came back telling me about these 'macaroon things' that are all over the place, and how good they are - that was the first time i had heard of them. Then they were one of the tasks on Masterchef - the contestants had to produce a 'macaroon tower',,,and thats what inspired me! They are the coolest looking things, so today Michael and I took up the challenge.
The recipe was one of the easiest I could find (http://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/multicoloured-macaroons) I wanted to make blue and green ones, but the shop didnt have any flavouring to go with it, so i went with chocolate and lemon. As the the lemon batch came out of the oven, I  was so disappointed! They were more like squashed-too-much-sugar biscuits, but didnt taste tooo bad. Michaels batch - the choc ones, looked similar, but tasted soooo good!, crunchy on the outside and deliciously chewy on the inside! We filled the lemon ones with lemon butter-icing, and the chocolate ones with Nutella (Nutella makes everything ok ;) ..once we put them together, they looked a hundred times more like macaroons and tasted much better!

It was a fun experience, but definately not worth the time and effort, I would rather buy them at R7 each from the bakery up the road! Anyway, here is my version of a macaroon tower.........
